While the fate of Doctor Strange and the rest of the Avengers might be up in the air right now, Marvel is moving forward with a sequel to the 2016 film. According to multiple outlets, Scott Derrickson will be returning to Direct the untitled “Doctor Strange 2” film, which will bring back a few fan favorite characters from the first installment.

Marvel Studios has not formally announced the director, and the studio still doesn’t have a script written for the project, but things are starting to come together for the good Doctor. If everything goes according to plan, “Doctor Strange 2” will start production sometime in 2020, giving the film a 2021 release date. Fans of the original probably remember that Derrickson directed the first film and co-wrote the script. The original film starred Benedict Cumberbatch in the titular role, and don’t worry Cumberbatch fans he is set to return for the follow-up film, along with former stars Benedict Wong and Rachel McAdams.

“Doctor Strange” did well in theaters, making over $232M domestically before going on to make over $677M for Marvel.

Fans of Doctor Strange will have to wait and see how things turn out in “Avengers: Endgame,” the last time we saw Doctor Strange things weren’t going very well. The good Doctor was last seen in “Avengers: Infinity War,” were he mentioned the word Endgame that would become the title for the next installment.

The next big Marvel release is “Captain Marvel,” set in the 1990s. “Captain Marvel” was directed by the writing/directing team of Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck and the screenplay was written by Meg LeFauve, Nicole Perlman, Geneva Robertson-Dworet, Liz Flahive & Carly Mensch, and Anna Boden & Ryan Fleck.

Starring in the titular role of Captain Marvel is Academy Award winner Brie Larson, she will be joined by Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Djimon Hounsou, Lee Pace, Lashana Lynch, Gemma Chan, Algenis Perez Soto, Rune Temte, and McKenna Grace. Also featured in the film are Clark Gregg and Jude Law.
