Netflix has picked up a new series focused on the official story of Tejano music legend, Selena Quintanilla. The coming of age story will follow Selena as her dreams come true, and through all of the difficult and life-changing choices that she and her family have to make as they navigate success, family, and music.

The company also stated that the Quintanilla family has been fully involved in the project and will be executive producers on the show. Netflix stopped short of announcing a release window at this time, so we will have to wait for a few more teasers. The official Executive Producers on the new series are Jaime Dávila, Rico Martinez, Suzette Quintanilla, Abraham Quintanilla Jr., and Simran A. Singh. Moisés Zamora (Star, American Crime) is serving as writer and Executive Producer on the series, which is under the Campanario Entertainment production company.

“Selena will always have a lasting place in music history and we feel great responsibility to do justice to her memory. With this series, viewers will finally get the full history of Selena, our family, and the impact she has had on all of our lives. We are excited to partner with Campanario and Netflix to give fans a never-before-seen glimpse at our story and highlight why Selena will remain a legend for generations to come.” Suzette Quintanilla, sister of Selena Quintanilla

Netflix also released the following teaser video to announce the show.

No casting information was given at this time, though Selena fans will be eager to learn who will be playing her in the new series. A “Selena” film was released back in 1997 from writer and director Gregory Nava, in that film Selena was played by Jennifer Lopez. That film also featured Edward James Olmos, and Jon Seda. “Selena” won the ALMA Award (American Latino Media Arts) for Outstanding Actress in a Feature Film, Favorite Movie Actor, Favorite Movie, and the ALMA Award for Outstanding Latino Director of a Feature Film.
