It’s a special night for BBC America, tonight is the Season Finale of the current season of “Doctor Who”. There’s also the special New Year’s Eve episode coming up, which is a change from the usual Christmas episodes that the series have hosted in the past. There’s a new trailer to watch for the episode, so set a reminder and enjoy the video.
The New Year’s Day special episode of “Doctor Who” will air on Tuesday, January 1st and the network released a quick preview trailer to get fans excited for the holiday event. “Doctor Who” fans will also have the first-ever “Who Year’s Day” to look forward to on BBC America this year, that is a special marathon of episodes starting with all the Christmas specials at 12pm ET/PT on Monday, December 24th. The marathon will then continues through December 25th to keep you in the Christmas spirit.
After the Christmas marathon, it’s a marathon of all the Doctors, starting with Peter Capaldi, followed by Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant, and Matt Smith, leading straight into the New Year’s special on Tuesday, January 1st. The all-new episode is written by Chris Chibnall and directed by Wayne Yip (Preacher, Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency).
According to the network, “As the New Year begins, a terrifying evil is stirring from across the centuries of Earth’s history. Will the Doctor, Ryan (Tosin Cole), Graham (Bradley Walsh) and Yaz (Mandip Gill) be able to overcome this threat to Planet Earth?”
If you want some Doctor Who fun, BBC America created a playlist of all the Doctor Who opening sequences and put the playlist on YouTube. They are all there, and while the wobbly-wobbly current one is quickly becoming my favorite, it’s really great to look back on all the different ideas that have hit the small screen over the years.
Don’t forget, the finale of the current season will air on tonight at 8pm/7c on BBC AMERICA.
