There’s no shortage of holiday programming this time of year, but only one network has a Doctor Who Yule Log. BBC America has outlined the network’s plans for the holidays this year, overstuffed with documentaries, sci-fi, sports, and more. The action is slated to begin in December and we have all the details you need.
The holiday programming event includes a month-long celebration of fan favorite shows and movies, and while some of them aren’t exactly holiday themed, you can make a holiday binge-fest out of anything with blankets and wintry snacks.
The festival begins on December 3rd with “Movies That Sleigh” followed by themed binges each week celebrating the best of sci-fi, Earth, specials, and marathons. It all leads into a nine-day Doctor Who event starting on Christmas Eve with two days of back-to-back Christmas Specials, and culminates in the franchise’s first-ever New Year’s Day Special on January 1st.
As we mentioned earlier, the firt event begins on December 3rd and will run through December 5th. “Movies That Sleigh” will include “Pulp Fiction,” the “Rambo films,” “The Departed,” “Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines” and other action-hits. The following week, December 6th through the December 9th, will be the Sci-Fi Binge. This special event will lead right into the big Doctor Who finale, so fans won’t want to miss it. During the sci-fi binge you can find “Star Trek: The Original Series,” “The X-Files,” “The Real History of Science Fiction” and other hit sci-fi movies.
Then we switch gears between December 13th and December 16th for the Earth Binge. This will include Emmy-winners “Blue Planet II,” “Planet Earth,” “Frozen Planet” and more.
After that is the Darts Binge, running between December 13th and January 1st. You’ll find the best matches from the World Darts Championship, the biggest darts tournament in the world, Sunday mornings on BBC AMERICA (beginning December 16th). Full coverage, 111 hours of Darts action, will be livestreamed on BBCAmerica.com and the app starting on December 13th.
Now we are in the homestretch of the holidays and between December 22nd and December 23rd you can watch BBCA’s critically-acclaimed original series “Killing Eve,” “Sherlock,” the “National Lampoon” movies, along with other BBC hits and specials.
On December 24th and December 25th you will have the previous Doctor Who Christmas Specials to watch, followed by a Doctor Who marathon on December 25th through January 1st. This will include all episodes with Peter Capaldi, Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant, and Matt Smith, leading straight into the first-ever New Year’s Day special episode starring Jodie Whittaker.
As we mentioned before, the network will also be bringing back the Doctor Who Yule Log, all new for 2019, for December on VOD, BBCAmerica.com and the app.
