‘Bad Times at the El Royale’ Goes Digital in December
A mystery motel, with a big cast
The mystery-drama “Bad Times at the El Royale” now has a home box office release date. 20th Century FOX will release the film on Digital HD on December 18th, followed by a 4K, Blu-ray, and DVD release on January 1st. The film stars Jeff Bridges, Cynthia Erivo, Dakota Johnson, Jon Hamm, and Chris Hemsworth. The film and was written and directed by Drew Goddard and will be available during the upcoming travel season.
The story takes place in 1968 as a group of strangers, all with their own secrets, meet at Lake Tahoe’s El Royale. The hotel is a foreboding place, and everyone’s past and demons come out as they stay the night. The film saw a limited release in theaters, opening back in October at 2,808 locations. The film made $7M over its opening weekend and went on to make over $17M domestically. The film made over $30M worldwide while still in theaters.
“Bad Times at the El Royale” opened during a packed box office schedule, going against previous hits like “Venom” and “A Star is Born,” while also competing against “Goosebumps 2” and “Night School”. October’s other big releases like “Halloween,” “Smallfoot,” “Hunter Killer,” and “Mid90s” prevented “Bad Times at the El Royale” from gaining any real traction during its limited release. The Digital release should be successful for the studio, as viewers catch up on the films they missed over the holidays. You can add “Bad Times at the El Royale” to your watch-list during the holidays, while we are all trapped in our icy houses for the next few months.
