Lex Luthor has been mysteriously absent from the world of “Supergirl” over on The CW but all of that is about to change. Emmy winner Jon Cryer will be taking on the role of the villainous Lex Luthor for the show in the near future, and we already know when he’s going to show up.

Set as a recurring character for the show’s fourth-season, Cryer will enter in the story during episode 15. We don’t have an exact premiere date for that episode at this time, but DC will have to wait at least a few more months before its ready.

“We are enormous fans of Jon Cryer, and he was instantly our dream actor to play the iconic role of Lex Luthor,” Supergirl executive producers Robert Rovner and Jessica Queller said in a joint statement late on Friday. “Jon is a super-talent, and the fact that he played Lenny Luthor in Superman IV brings an added layer of legacy to his casting. We’re beyond thrilled to welcome Jon to the Supergirl family.”

In a fun coincidence, Jon Cryer isn’t even new to the Lex Luthor family. It’s a role he probably would like to forget but Cryer played the role of Lenny Luther, nephew of Lex Luthor, in the often mocked “Superman IV: The Quest for Peace” directed by Sidney J. Furie. In that installment Gene Hackman played Lex Luthor, with Christopher Reeve playing Superman and Margot Kidder playing Lois Lane. While Christopher Reeve played an amazing Superman, the film was both destroyed by critics and lost money, despite bringing back most of the popular cast.

If you’ve been following the show, it’s not a surprise that Luthor is jumping into the action, but viewers didn’t know who would be playing the role. “Supergirl” has been a hit for the network, now leading the way on The CW’s Sunday night lineup. The show is adding more Tyler Hoechlin as Superman in upcoming episodes, and Elizabeth Tulloch is the new Lois Lane.
