Universal Pictures will release “Assassination Nation” on Digital HD and the all-new digital movie app ‘Movies Anywhere’ on December 18th. The film will also be releasing on Blu-ray, DVD and On Demand on the same day. The film doesn’t exactly fit in with the normal holiday-themed releases over the next month, but it should be a nice break if you find your library is packed with too much sweetness.

You can pre-order the film on Digital HD and have it ready on release day on iTunes. If you rather have the retail version, you can find them here on Amazon. The film only saw a limited release in theaters after touring the film festival circuit. “Assassination Nation” still made over $2M domestically, and over $1M on its opening weekend.

Assassination Nation stars Odessa Young (The Daughter), Hari Nef (“Transparent”), Suki Waterhouse (The Pride and Prejudice and Zombies), and singer Abra as four best friends living in a suburban town where chaos simmers under a façade of lies, during the social-media-crazed age where every mistake you make is documented online forever. The fiercely intense, wildly fun and ultimately empowering film also features a star-studded supporting cast including Bella Thorne (Midnight Sun), Bill Skarsgård (IT), Joel McHale (“Community”), and Maude Apatow (“Girls”).

The story picks up when high school senior Lily (Young) and her three best friends live in a world controlled by social media, filled with selfies, emojis, snaps, and sexts. But when their small town of Salem is thrown into a massive data hack outing citizens’ private information into the public view, the community descends into full-blown anarchy. When Lily becomes the target after being falsely blamed for the hack, her squad bands together to save themselves and survive a treacherous, blood-soaked night.

The film was written and directed by Sam Levinson and features Odessa Young, Hari Nef, Suki Waterhouse, Abra, Bella Thorne, Bill Skarsgård, Joel McHale, and Noah Galvin.
