Disney has started teasing “Toy Story 4,” giving fans of the franchise a quick preview of the lovable characters that are coming to theaters next year. The fourth installment was directed by Josh Cooley (“Riley’s First Date?”) and produced by Jonas Rivera (“Inside Out,” “Up”) and Mark Nielsen (associate producer “Inside Out”). The film is scheduled to hit theaters on June 21, 2019. The trailer does little more than remind fans that the fourth movie exists, and is releasing in the summer, but you can prepare your tissues now.
Disney/Pixar described the trailer on YouTube adding, “Woody has always been confident about his place in the world and that his priority is taking care of his kid, whether that’s Andy or Bonnie. But when Bonnie adds a reluctant new toy called “Forky” to her room, a road trip adventure alongside old and new friends will show Woody how big the world can be for a toy.”
The first Toy Story flew into theaters back in 1995 and was directed by John Lasseter. The film had a $29M opening and went on to make $373M worldwide. Thee sequel started with a limited-release before hitting theaters nationwide in 1999, the film’s wide debut brought in $57M for the studio and the film went on to make $497M worldwide. Then Toy Story really took hold, the third film opened in 2010 with a $110M debut in theaters before making over $1B worldwide.
The fourth installment will feature the voice talents of Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Annie Potts, Joan Cusack, Patricia Arquette, Kristen Schaal, Laurie Metcalf, Bonnie Hunt, Jeff Garlin, and Estelle Harris. A full-length trailer will be on the way shortly, until then fans will just have to imagine all the ways that Pixar will make us cry with the upcoming release. Disney’s next film to hit theaters will be “Ralph Breaks the Internet” which is scheduled to release in theaters on November 21, 2018.
