Annapurna Pictures released the first official trailer for “Missing Link” this morning, the animated-adventure is set to release in theaters this April. The story is being brought to life with an oversized hero and some very big names from the red-carpet. The cast includes Hugh Jackman, Zoe Saldana, Zach Galifianakis, Timothy Olyphant, David Walliams, Emma Thompson, Matt Lucas, Ching Valdes-Aran, Stephen Fry, and Amrita Acharia.
The story follows Mr. Link, who is 8 feet tall, 630 lbs, and covered in fur. Tired of living a solitary life in the Pacific Northwest, Mr. Link recruits fearless explorer Sir Lionel Frost to guide him on a journey to find his long-lost relatives in the fabled valley of Shangri-La. Along with adventurer Adelina Fortnight, our fearless trio of explorers encounter more than their fair share of peril as they travel to the far reaches of the world to help their new friend. Through it all, the three learn that sometimes you can find a family in the places you least expect.
The film was written and directed by Chris Butler and fans of the genre can watch the official trailer below. You might know Butler’s previous work in the animation genre, he wrote the screenplay for the hit “Kubo and the Two Strings” which has a 97% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. “Kubo and the Two Strings” was directed by Travis Knight and featured Matthew McConaughey, Charlize Theron, Rooney Mara, Ralph Fiennes, and George Takei. That project was a hit with fans and critics and made $12M on opening weekend before grossing over $69M worldwide. Butler also worked on “Coraline,” “Tarzan 2,” and “Corpse Bride”.
“Missing Link” will open in April, which has been filling up fast. The big titles set to release that month, so far, are the horror-thriller remake “Pet Sematary”; the DC superhero installment “Shazam!”; Lionsgate’s “Hellboy” reboot; and Sony’s thriller “The Intruder”.
“Missing Link” will hit theaters on April 12, 2019.
