Illumination is bringing back the pets
With “The Grinch” ready to pounce into theaters across the country, Illumination Studios has released a new trailer for “The Secret Life of Pets 2”. The highly-anticipated sequel will hit theaters this summer and fans of the original can watch the trailer below.
The first film in the series had a stunning opening debut in 2016, grossing over $104M for the hit studio. The original went on to make $368M domestically and over $875M worldwide. The film was directed by Chris Renaud and featured the voice talents of Dana Carvey, Louis C.K., Eric Stonestreet, and Kevin Hart.
“The Secret Life of Pets 2” will see the return of writer Brian Lynch (Minions) and once again be directed by Chris Renaud (Despicable Me series, Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax). The sequel will offer the voice talents of Lake Bell, Hannibal Buress, Dana Carvey, Harrison Ford, Tiffany Haddish, Kevin Hart, Pete Holmes, Garth Jennings, Ellie Kemper, Nick Kroll, Bobby Moynihan, Patton Oswald, Jenny Slate, and Eric Stonestreet. You can watch the official trailer for the film below.
While it could change, “The Secret Life of Pets 2” is scheduled to open against FOX’s “Dark Phoenix” from the X-Men franchise. Also set to release that weekend is the Jonathan Levine film “Flarsky,” that film features Seth Rogen and Charlize Theron. Other big releases that month include the next “Men in Black” film and the remake of “Shaft”. There’s also “Toy Story 4” from PIXAR which will most likely dominate the remaining month at the box office, and Sony’s horror-thriller “Grudge”.
As we mentioned earlier, the next big release for Illumination Studios is the animated-film “The Grinch,” set to release in theaters on November 9th. In “The Grinch” Benedict Cumberbatch will be voicing the terrible and fun-hating green icon. That film will open against Sony’s “Girl in the Spider’s Web” and the horror-thriller “Overlord”.
