While it mostly depends on the year that you were born, there’s a good chance that “Disney’s The Lion King” is one of your all-time favorite animated films. While the movie is already available on Digital HD on iTunes, as well as Blu-ray and DVD on Amazon, you will soon get to see it in 4K UHD thanks to a special release from Disney. The studio confirmed this week that it will release a 4K version of the film on December 4th this year, just in time for the holidays.

The coming-of-age story of Simba the lion cub, will be the first ever Signature Edition to roar onto 4K Ultra HD, but it probably won’t be the last.

The original film released in theaters back in 1994 and was directed by Roger Allers and Rob Minkoff. The film had a limited-release on its debut, still bringing in over $1.5M in just two locations, and made over $40M when it opened nationwide against “Wyatt Earp”. THe film pushed out the previous chart-topper “Speed,” with Keanu Reeves. Disney’s “The Lion King” made over $422M domestically for Walt Disney Studios in theaters, and went on to make over $968M worldwide.

Disney is already working on a live-action adaptation of “The Lion King,” that film is set to hit theaters in the summer of 2019. Jon Favreau is directing the new installment, and it will feature Beyonce as Nala; Keegan-Michael Key as the hyena Kamari; Donald Glover as Simba; and James Earl Jones returning to the franchise to voice the role of Mufasa. Other roles include Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar; and Alfre Woodard as Simba’s mother Sarabi. HBO’s John Oliver will be voicing the bird Zazu and John Kani will be the wise Rafiki.

In other casting news, it was announced that Florence Kasumba will be playing Shenzi, while Eric André will be playing Azizi. Let’s not forget the comedians of the film, Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen, who will be voicing Timon and Pumbaa in the project. As for young Simba, that will be JD McCrary, while young Nala will be played by Shahadi Wright Joseph.
