After a lot of speculation and rumors, Dwayne Johnson has finally revealed Vanessa Kirby’s character in the upcoming “Hobbs & Shaw” film. The new project, which is a spinoff of the “Fast and Furious” franchise, is currently filming and Johnson took to social-media to introduce his new cast-mate. Following Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) and Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham) the details on the new story are being kept secret for now, but we do know that David Leitch is directing the film and that Kirby will be taking on the role of Hattie Shaw.

In his Instagram post Johnson told followers, “In our spin-off, HOBBS & SHAW, I have a nice new friend. Meet “Hattie Shaw” played by my homegirl.” Johnson added, “Hattie loves the following, Longs walks on the beach. Being a bad ass MI6 Operative. Drinking tequila with Hobbs. And not in that order. Hattie also happens to be the sister of Deckard Shaw”. Adding fuel to the fictional tiff between the two lead characters, Johnson told fans, “It tortures him that his sister Hattie is kickin’ it with Hobbs. His pain makes me very happy.”

This brings the Shaw family count to four members so far in the Fast and Furious universe. Luke Evans played Owen Shaw; There’s our current star Deckard Shaw; and Helen Mirren played Magdalene Shaw the mother of Owen and Deckard, and now Hattie.

“Hobbs & Shaw” is currently filming but the studio is hoping to have the film ready for an August 2nd release date. That release date puts the film against an untitled Warner Bros. Picture project, “Dora the Explorer,” and FOX’s “New Mutants” with Anya Taylor-Joy, Maisie Williams, and Antonio Banderas. The release date is still pretty far off, so things could get shuffled around before August arrives. The following week is Disney’s “Artemis Fowl,” from director Kenneth Branagh, which might also move to have more room at the box office.

The latest installment, “Fate of the Furious,” made $98M on its opening weekend in April 2017. The film then went on to make over $226M domestically and over $1.2B worldwide.
