Earlier today indie video game publisher Modus Games announced that the company has entered into a partnership with Frozenbyte to release “Trine 4” in 2019 for the PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Launching on four platforms next year, Modus Games is making sure that almost everyone will be able to jump into the next installment. According to the publisher, the fantasy action series has sold over 8M copies worldwide since its original debut, which was “Trine” back in 2009.

“We are absolutely thrilled to embark on this journey with Frozenbyte,” said Christina Seelye, CEO of Modus Games. “There’s no doubt Trine 4 will be the game players have been asking for.”

“Trine 4 is going to be the best in the series,” said Lauri Hyvärinen, CEO of Frozenbyte. “We have rekindled our love for the franchise, heard and seen the fan feedback, and our hearts are set on exceeding those expectations. Trine is back!”

The publisher also launched a website for the game over on trine4.com, though right now it’s just a portal to sign-up for the newsletter for more information down the road. Now that the cat is out of the bag, hopefully we will get a teaser-trailer of the new installment over the next few months that shows off some gameplay. Modus Games stopped short of announcing a more precise release date, other than “2019,” but the announcement should be welcomed by fans of the long-running franchise.

If you need a refresher on the series, below is a Playstation trailer for “Trine 3: The Artifacts of Power”. The 3D platformer mixed different puzzles with standard action-adventure gameplay mechanics and was a hit with fans. Sony left the description, “Experience a fairytale world of breathtaking sceneries and face a myriad of physics-based puzzles, wonderful contraptions, dangerous foes and enchanting creatures.”

Seems like the game will be in development for the next few months, so keep this one on the back-burner for now. If you’re a fan of the franchise we suggest handing over an email address to keep updated on the progress of the game.
