“Juliet, Naked” will be available to stream by the end of the month, offering stay at home moviegoers something new to watch this month that isn’t filled with witches or zombies. The film stars Golden Globe nominee Rose Byrne (Best Supporting Actress – Television, “Damages,” 2010) and Academy Award nominee Ethan Hawke (Best Supporting Actor, Boyhood, 2014) and features Chris O’Dowd (IT Crowd, Bridesmaids, Molly’s Game, TV’s “Get Shorty”). The film will first release on Digital HD on October 30th, followed by a Blu-ray (plus Digital), DVD, and On Demand release on November 13th.
The film is based on the novel by best-selling author Nick Hornby (High Fidelity, About a Boy) and from producer Judd Apatow (TV’s “Girls,” This is 40). The film was written for the screen by Evgenia Peretz and Jim Taylor & Tamara Jenkins and directed by Jesse Peretz. In the story Annie (Byrne), the long-suffering girlfriend of Duncan (O’Dowd), develops an unlikely transatlantic romance with the once-admired, now washed-up singer-songwriter Tucker Crowe, who also happens to be the subject of Duncan’s musical obsession.
The romantic-comedy opened in four locations when it hit theaters last August, bringing in over $60K over its weekend debut. “Juliet, Naked” went on to make over $3.4M while in theaters. The film opened the same weekend as “Crazy Rich Asians,” one of the year’s most successful romantic-comedies, which probably hurt “Juliet, Naked” at the box office. The Digital release should attract fans of the genre, as all three actors in the film have a loyal fan-base, and you can start streaming the film in just a few days.
