Netflix Ends ‘Iron Fist’ Before Season 3

No more Iron Fist

Things aren’t going well for Iron Fist, it seems that the superhero won’t be coming back for a new season at Netflix. The second season ended with some interesting hints at possible season 3 story lines, but Netflix won’t be seeing any of them through.

A month ago we ended season 2 of “Marvel’s Iron Fist,” which left Iron Fist globetrotting with new abilities and his BFF taking on powers of her own. While they were interesting, Netflix won’t be exploring the series any farther.

In a statement to Deadline, Netflix and Marvel confirmed the news adding, “Marvel’s Iron Fist will not return for a third season on Netflix.”

The statement continued, “Everyone at Marvel Television and Netflix is proud of the series and grateful for all of the hard work from our incredible cast, crew and showrunners. We’re thankful to the fans who have watched these two seasons, and for the partnership we’ve shared on this series. While the series on Netflix has ended, the immortal Iron Fist will live on.”

“Marvel’s Iron Fist” is the first of the Marvel series to end at Netflix. This doesn’t mean that Danny Rand won’t appear in any of Marvel’s other properties on Netflix, or that Danny Rand won’t return on another network or service, but it seems very unlikely that Iron Fist: Season 3 is ever going to happen.

The fates of the other Marvel series are also in jeopardy as Disney prepares to start its own streaming service. It would make sense for Disney to pull the plug on any shows currently running on Netflix, then move the viewers to its own streaming service when it launches. It’s unlikely that Netflix’s currently lineup of Marvel heroes will get to move to Disney‘s service in the future, and we don’t think that Disney plans to fund any Netflix series while promoting its own streaming service. So Disney will most likely wrap-up the current Marvel story lines on Netflix, then start with a new batch of heroes on its own service.

Krysten Ritter’s “Marvel’s Jessica Jones” does have a third-season heading to Netflix, and “Luke Cage” will most likely get a third-season pick up as well. As for “Marvel’s Daredevil,” the third-season of that series will launch on Netflix on October 19th. After that, nothing has been confirmed.
