STX’s “The Happytime Murders” will releases on Digital HD on November 20th, with the Blu-ray Combo Pack, DVD and On Demand versions of the film releasing on December 4th. “The Happytime Murders” was directed and produced by Brian Henson (The Muppet Christmas Carol) alongside producers Jeffrey Hayes, Melissa McCarthy, and Ben Falcone. The film features Melissa McCarthy (The Boss), Maya Rudolph (Bridesmaids), Joel McHale (“Community”), and Elizabeth Banks (Pitch Perfect) in the cast.

You can find the Digital HD version of the film on iTunes, Amazon Video, and Google Play. If you would rather grab the retail versions, you can find them here on Amazon.

As for the story, “The Happytime Murders” is a very adult-comedy set in the underbelly of Los Angeles where puppets and humans coexist. Two clashing detectives with a shared secret, one human (McCarthy) and one puppet, are forced to work together again to solve the brutal murders of the former cast of a beloved classic puppet television show.

Despite the popular cast, “The Happytime Murders” struggled at the box office when it hit theaters back in August. The film debuted at number-three at the domestic box office, behind Warner Bros. Pictures’ romantic-comedy “Crazy Rich Asians” and the studio’s shark-thriller “The Meg”. With an opening weekend of $9.5M, the film went on to make a total of $20M domestically. The film did not last long in foreign markets, only grossing another $4.4M for the studio.

The film was a rare miss for McCarthy, who is usually a huge draw for audiences. She has a long track record of successful comedies, and her recent film “Life of the Party” brought in $65M worldwide while “The Boss” made over $78M. Her ensemble comedies did even better, “Ghostbusters” made over $229M worldwide and “Bridesmaids” made over $288M.
