Netflix has added another adult-comedy series to the schedule, this one staring Jake Johnson from FOX’s “The New Girl”. Netflix describes the series adding, “Hoops centers around a hot-headed, foul-mouthed high school basketball coach who thinks turning around his God-awful team will take him to the big leagues.”
The show will star Jake Johnson (New Girl, BoJack Horseman, Spider Man: Into the Spider-verse) who is set to voice the character of Coach Ben Hopkins. Netflix has already ordered 10 x 30 minute episodes of the series, which doesn’t have a release date at this time.
The series comes from Writer, Creator, and Executive Producer Ben Hoffman, with Phil Lord & Chris Miller (The Lego Movie), Seth Cohen, and Jake Johnson working behind the camera as producers and Executive Producers.
The new series was announced shortly after Netflix confirmed a new “Chronicles of Narnia” series. Under the terms of that multi-year deal between Netflix and The C.S. Lewis Company, Netflix will develop classic stories from across the Narnia universe into series and films for its members worldwide. All series and films produced through the deal will be Netflix productions, with Mark Gordon of Entertainment One (eOne) alongside Douglas Gresham and Vincent Sieber serving as executive producers for series and as producers for features. In total the Narnia books have sold more than 100 million copies and been translated in more than 47 languages worldwide. The deal marks the first time that rights to the entire seven books of the Narnia universe have been held by the same company.
Netflix also confirmed this week that Mark Wahlberg and Winston Duke (Black Panther, Avengers Infinity War) will star in “Wonderland”. That story follows Spenser who, fresh out of prison, is sucked back into Boston’s underbelly as he uncovers the truth about a sensational murder and the twisted conspiracy behind it.
