Taron Egerton’s fantasy biopic on Sir Elton John released an official teaser trailer this morning, starting the day with a little magic from the Elton John songbook. Paramount Pictures put together the following video to give fans a first-look at “Rocketman,” which is expected to hit theaters in Summer 2019. Known best for his work in “The Kingsman” franchise, this will be one of Egerton’s first major roles outside of the action-genre, and we hope that it’s just the beginning for the young actor.
The studio calls “Rocketman” an “epic musical fantasy about the uncensored human story of Sir Elton John’s breakthrough years”. The film stars Taron Egerton, Jamie Bell, Richard Madden and Bryce Dallas Howard. The film was directed by Dexter Fletcher and produced by Matthew Vaughn, David Furnish, Adam Bohling, and David Reid. “Rocketman” was Executive Produced by Elton John, Steve Hamilton Shaw, Michael Gracey, and Claudia Schiffer. Fans of Sir Elton John can watch the first official teaser-trailer below.
This won’t be the first major musical biopic to hit theaters this year. FOX will release “Bohemian Rhapsody” in November of this year. That film was directed by Bryan Singer and stars Rami Malek, Aidan Gillen, Mike Myers, and Tom Hollander. That bio-drama tells of the stories leading up Queen’s iconic appearance at the Live Aid concert in 1985.
Also releasing this November is Taron Egerton’s new “Robin Hood” adaptation. That project was directed by Otto Bathurst, working from a screenplay by Ben Chandler and David James Kelly. Starring alongside Taron Egerton are Jamie Foxx, Eve Hewson, Ben Mendelsohn, and Jamie Dornan.
This is only the first teaser for “Rocketman,” more videos and clips will be released over the next few wintry months. Paramount Pictures hasn’t settled on an exact release date at this time but we will most likely have a firm release date after the New Year.
