‘PlayStation Classic’ hits Stores This Winter
Sony offers a tiny console
Sony is jumping into the retro gaming market with a new “PlayStation Classic” model. The console will come pre-loaded with 20 popular games from yesteryear, including original PS hits like “Final Fantasy VII” and “Wild Arms”. The tiny new console is shipping this winter for $99.
The PlayStation Classic is much smaller than the original PlayStation model, about 45% smaller according to Sony’s announcement this morning. You can already pre-order the new console at select retailers in the US and CAN, and each unit will also come with an HDMI cable, a USB cable, and two controllers for local multiplayer within compatible titles. The new console will launch on December 3, 2018.
Of course you can play most of your favorite Playstation titles on iOS or Android devices now and there are online emulators that will allow you to play almost every older title ever released on any platform, but if you don’t want to mess around with emulator programs or mobile devices, this is one of the easier methods. Nintendo started the retro-gaming mini console craze with the release of the NES Classic Edition and the Super NES Classic Edition Mini, and if you enjoy jumping back into your childhood you can add this Sony model to your collection. The Nintendo version was a big-seller when it debuted a few years ago and was one of the most sought after holiday toys on the market. We don’t know how many of the PlayStation Classic models Sony has made, or if they too will be hard to find when the holidays roll around later this year. Sony put together a promotional video to get fans excited for the new launch, Playstation fans can watch that video below.
