FOX may not have set a Digital release date for “The Darkest Minds” yet but the sci-fi thriller is now scheduled to hit 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD on October 30th. The studio didn’t explain why it announced a retail release for the film before a Digital HD release, but anyone that was hoping to stream the film or watch it On-Demand will just have to wait.

You can pre-order the Digital HD version to have on release day from iTunes, Amazon Video, and Google Play. If you prefer the retail version of the film, you can pre-order it right here on Amazon.

The film itself comes from the producers of “Stranger Things” and the story follows a group of teens who mysteriously develop new abilities and are declared a threat by the government. Ruby (Amandla Stenberg), one of the most powerful young people anyone has encountered, escapes and joins a group of runaway teens seeking safe haven. Soon, this newfound family realizes that collective power is needed to take back control of their fate and save future generations.

The film was a financial success in theaters, though it got buried at the box office on opening weekend. The film released back in August and the thriller debut with a $5.8M weekend against “Disney’s Christopher Robin” and “The Spy Who Dumped Me”. This was during the time that “Mission Impossible Fallout” was still dominating the box office charts. “The Darkest Minds” made over $12.6M domestically before grossing over $41M worldwide. Directed by Jennifer Yuh Nelson, “The Darkest Minds” also featured Mandy Moore, Amandla Stenberg, and Bradley Whitford.

Fans of Mandy Moore will see her return in the award-winning series “This is Us,” while Amandla Stenberg’s big drama “The Hate U Give” is scheduled to release on October 19th. That film was directed by George Tillman Jr., working from a screenplay written by Audrey Wells. The film is based on the novel by Angie Thomas and also features Regina Hall and Russell Hornsby.
