Netflix released a trailer for “Apostle” today, another installment to Netflix‘s library of original films. The new thriller was written and directed by Gareth Evans, the same person that brought us “The Raid” and “The Raid 2,” and it’s coming to Netflix on October 12th.

“Apostle” stars Dan Stevens, Lucy Boynton, Mark Lewis Jones, Bill Milner, Kristine Froseth, Paul Higgins and Michael Sheen, and is from producers Aram Tertzakian and Ed Talfan.

At the start of the 20th century in London, prodigal son Thomas Richardson (Dan Stevens) has returned home, only to learn that his sister is being held for ransom by a religious cult. Determined to get her back at any cost, Thomas travels to the idyllic island where the cult lives under the leadership of the charismatic Prophet Malcolm (Michael Sheen). As Thomas infiltrates the island’s community, he learns that the corruption of mainland society that they claim to reject has infested the cult’s ranks nonetheless – and uncovers a secret far more evil than he could have imagined.

Netflix calls “Apostle” a “harrowing occult fable where the only thing more horrifying than madness is the sinister reality behind it”. Just in time for Halloween, you can watch the first trailer for “Apostle” below.

Netflix has been busy bolstering its original lineup of films and series. Earlier this month the company announced a new series based on “The Witcher” with Henry Cavill (Mission Impossible – Fallout, Justice League) set to star in the role of Geralt of Rivia. Lauren Schmidt Hissrich (Marvel’s Daredevil, Marvel’s The Defenders, Umbrella Academy) will be serving as showrunner for that series, which already has an 8 episode order. Alik Sakharov (House of Cards, Game of Thrones), Alex Garcia Lopez (Marvel’s Luke Cage, Utopia), and Charlotte Brändström (Outlander, Counterpart, Disparue) are all onboard to direct episodes for that series. In the story Geralt of Rivia, a solitary monster hunter, struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts. But when destiny hurtles him toward a powerful sorceress, and a young princess with a dangerous secret.
