‘Joker’ Director Teases Joaquin Phoenix as Arthur
Jokes on us again
The director of the upcoming “Joker” movie has started teasing his next project on social-media. Todd Phillips released a first look picture on Instagram today of Joaquin Phoenix, a preview of the man that will become the Joker.
To keep things interesting, Phillips only gave the caption “Arthur” with the picture, this is most likely the name of the character before he starts going by his iconic villain name. According to the studio, the film centers around the arch nemesis and is “an original, standalone story not seen before on the big screen”. The studio went on to describe the film adding, “Phillips’ exploration of a man disregarded by society is not only a gritty character study, but also a broader cautionary tale”.
Phillips will direct from a screenplay he co-wrote with writer Scott Silver (“The Fighter”) and the film will be produced by Emma Tillinger Koskoff and executive produced by Richard Baratta. If you’re wondering how all of this fits into the DC Universe as we know it now… it doesn’t. In that franchise Jared Leto plays the Joker and will continue to do so in another movie if everything goes according to plan. Leto played the Joker in the film “Suicide Squad” and should be getting a standalone project sometime in the DC future. Speaking of plans, Phoenix’s Joker movie is scheduled to hit theaters on October 4, 2019.
DC fans can see Todd Phillips’ picture below from Instagram.
While this may not be the Joker-tastic picture fans were hoping for, remember that it’s just a tease, and more information will be coming down the line as the film moves into full production. At that time Warner Bros. Pictures will confirm the extended cast and then we play the waiting game for teaser-trailers and on-set photos.
