Marvel fans can finally watch the first trailer for “Captain Marvel,” the studio released the official trailer for the film earlier today. The story follows Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes in the Marvel Universe and the story picks up when Earth is caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races. This film will be a prequel to the events in other Marvel movies, set in the 1990s. “Captain Marvel” is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen timeline in the Marvel Cinematic Universe but there will probably be a wide-array of easter eggs and plot-connections to other Marvel properties within the story.

“Captain Marvel” was directed by the writing/directing team of Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck. The screenplay was written by Meg LeFauve, Nicole Perlman, Geneva Robertson-Dworet, Liz Flahive & Carly Mensch, and Anna Boden & Ryan Fleck.

Starring in the titular role of Captain Marvel is Academy Award winner Brie Larson, she will be joined by Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Djimon Hounsou, Lee Pace, Lashana Lynch, Gemma Chan, Algenis Perez Soto, Rune Temte, and McKenna Grace. Also featured in the film are Clark Gregg and Jude Law. Kevin Feige is the producer of Marvel Studios’ “Captain Marvel” with Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Jonathan Schwartz, Patty Whitcher and Stan Lee serving as executive producers. Lars Winther is serving as co-producer/first assistant director and David Grant serving as co-producer.

It will be interesting to see where Captain Marvel’s debut lands on the Marvel charts. “Iron Man” made his debut back in 2008, making $98M on opening weekend before grossing $585M globally. “The Incredible Hulk” was another 2008 release, making $55M on opening weekend before grossing $263M worldwide. “Captain America” made $65M on his opening weekend in 2011, the film then went on to gross over $370M worldwide. “Thor” also debuted in 2011, bringing in $65M on his opening weekend before making $449M worldwide. The “Guardians of the Galaxy” released in 2014, bringing in $94M on opening weekend before making over $773M worldwide, and “Ant-Man” hit the scene in 2015 and made $57M on the film’s opening weekend before making $519M globally. “Doctor Strange” made $85M on its opening weekend before grossing $677M worldwide, while “Black Panther” broke the bank with a $202M opening weekend before grossing $1.3B worldwide.
