The duo that brought us “Step Brothers” and “Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby” have a new movie coming out in December and you can get a first look at the comedy thanks to an official trailer from the studio. Titled “Holmes & Watson,” the actors will be taking on the roles of the world’s greatest consulting detective and his loyal biographer.
The film was written and directed by Etan Cohen and will feature Will Ferrell, John C. Reilly, Rebecca Hall, Rob Brydon, Kelly Macdonald, and Ralph Fiennes. The comedy-duo have a pretty successful record at the box-office together, “Step Brothers” opened at number-two in 2008 behind “The Dark Knight,” making almost $31M on opening weekend before grossing $128M worldwide. Their follow-up film, “Talladega Nights,” debuted at number-one back in 2006 with a $47M weekend before grossing over $162M worldwide. Director Etan Cohen wrote the screenplay for the Will Ferrell film “Get Hard,” which also featured Kevin Hart and Alison Brie, and also the screenplay for the films “Men in Black 3,” and “Tropic Thunder”. Cohen previously worked in television, writing episodes for shows like “American Dad,” “King of the Hill,” “Timon & Pumbaa,” and even “Beavis and Butthead”.
Will Ferrell is expected to appear in the film “Zeroville,” from director James Franco. That film is also set to launch in 2018 and features Joey King, Megan Fox, Seth Rogen, James Franco, Dave Franco, Danny McBride, Craig Robinson, and Horatio Sanz. John C. Reilly recently starred in the western “The Sisters Brothers,” with Joaquin Phoenix and Jake Gyllenhaal, and voices the titular character in “Ralph Breaks The Internet” with Gal Gadot, Kristen Bell, and Kelly Macdonald.
If you want to set a reminder to catch the film in theaters, “Holmes & Watson” is set to debut on December 21, 2018.
