Overwatch Begins ‘Summer Games’ Event
Reach for the sky
Blizzard is turning up the heat this summer with another round of the “Summer Games” in Overwatch. The Overwatch Summer Games 2018 event is now live and there are plenty of new skins and emotes for players to grab for a limited time.
The Summer Games event is scheduled to take place from now until August 31 and players can grab the new skins and enjoy a few rounds of Lúcioball with a brand-new map. While some items are repeats from last year, there are more than 50 brand-new Summer Games 2018 items available in the Summer Games Loot Boxes. If you didn’t grab the Summer skin that you were hoping for last year, you can try and get it this season.
The six new Legendary Skins added to the loot pool this year are Cabana Ana, Fastball Zenyatta, Gridironhardt Reinhardt, Lacrosse Roadhog, Waveracer D.Va, and Catcher Winston. There are three new Epic Skins as well, including Mexicana Sombra, Éireannach Moira, and Tre Kronor Brigitte. All totaled, there are more than 200 Summer Games-themed cosmetics to collect.
As we mentioned earlier, Lúcioball also made a comeback this year. In the fan-favorite mode each team pilots three Lúcios scoring goals on a playing field modified to take advantage of Lucio’s Wall Ride ability. Players control the ball with melee attacks or sound waves, make use of the Crossfade and ‘Amp It Up’ abilities for mobility, and boost movement speed and jump height with the new Turbo Boost Ultimate
Players can also find three unique arenas to play on, including the brand-new Busan Stadium, as well as the previous maps Sydney Harbour and Estádio das Rãs (Rio de Janeiro). Last year’s Copa Lúcioball also returns, with the Competitive Play ladder structure and placement matches for players to show off their skills.
Blizzard put together the promotional video above to preview all the new content returning for the Summer games, players can jump into the event at any time and start grabbing those loot boxes.
