Nicki Minaj released her follow-up album to 2014’s “The Pinkprint” this week, the album is called “Queen” and we might get to hear her perform a song from it during MTV’s “VMA” awards later this month. MTV confirmed this week that Minaj will return to the “VMAs” for the special performance but the network said it would be from “an iconic location in New York”. This will mark Minaj’s debut performance after the release of her highly anticipated album and we aren’t sure why MTV is being so coy about the venue.
MTV did say in the announcement that this will also be the first time a major awards show will televise a performance from the surprise location but no other details were given. The “VMAs” are already set to air live from an iconic landmark in New York; Radio City Music Hall. The event is scheduled to take place on August 20th across MTV’s global network of channels in more than 180 countries and territories, reaching more than half a billion households around the world.
As previously announced, Jennifer Lopez will be honored with the “Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award.” She is also set to perform at this year’s show for the first time since 2001. Additional performers include Ariana Grande, Travis Scott, Shawn Mendes, Post Malone, and Logic with Ryan Tedder. If you missed the nominations for this the 2018 VMAs, you can find them here. Spoiler alert, Cardi B is the front-runner for nominations this year. Fans can vote for their favorites across 12 VMA categories, including “Video of the Year,” “Artist of the Year,” “Best Collaboration” and more by visiting vma.mtv.com until Friday, August 10.
Bruce Gillmer and Jesse Ignjatovic are Executive Producers for the 2018 “VMAs.” Melanie Block serves as Executive in Charge of Production. Amani Duncan is Executive in Charge of Music.
We will just have to wait and see where Minaj will perform from, until then her fans can grab her new album and guess which song she might debut during the event.
