HBO is expanding into the teen drama business, setting a series order for the new original drama called “Euphoria”. According to HBO Euphoria “follows a group of high school students as they navigate drugs, sex, identity, trauma, social media, love and friendship.” The network hasn’t confirmed a release date yet for the new series but we do know the casting.
In the series Zendaya will play Rue; Maude Apatow will play Lexi; Brian “Astro” Bradley is playing the role of McKay; Angus Cloud will play Fezco; Eric Dane will be Cal; Alexa Demie is playing Maddy; Jacob Elordi will play Nate; Barbie Ferreira is playing Kat, Nika King will be PLAYING Leslie, Storm Reid is taking the role of Gia; Hunter Schafer will play Jules; and Sydney Sweeney will play Cassie.
HBO also confirmed that all episodes of Euphoria are being written by Sam Levinson, who is also serving as Executive Producer with Drake, Future the Prince, Ravi Nandan, Kevin Turen, Hadas Mozes Lichtenstein, Ron Leshem, Daphna Levin, Tmira Yardeni, Mirit Toovi, Yoram Mokadi, and Gary Lennon. Augustine Frizzell is directing the pilot and will also serve as the Pilot Co-Executive Producer.
The project itself comes from A24 and is based on the Israeli series of the same name from HOT that was created by Ron Leshem and Daphna Levin.
Zendaya has been busy lately, the actor took on the role of Michelle for the big “Spider-Man: Homecoming” installment, a role that she is expected to reprise for “Spider-Man: Far From Home“. The actor also voiced the role of Meechee for the upcoming animated-comedy “Smallfoot” which also stars LeBron James, Channing Tatum, Gina Rodriguez, Yara Shahidi, James Corden, Danny DeVito, Common, and Ely Henry. That project is expected to premiere in theaters on September 28th and was directed by Karey Kirkpatrick and Jason Reisig.
