Emma Stone and Jonah Hill are teaming up once again for a new limited-series for Netflix and it’s going by the name “Maniac”. Netflix released a first-look trailer for the new series this week, giving fans a quick preview of the story-line and art-direction. Fans might remember that Stone and Hill worked together in the popular 2007 comedy “Superbad,” that film was directed by Greg Mottola and also featured Michael Cera, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Bill Hader, Seth Rogen, and Dave Franco.
This new Netflix series will be directed by Cary Fukunaga, who has been a powerhouse behind television series like “The Alienist” and “True Detective”. Fukunaga also wrote the screenplay and directed the 2015 critically acclaimed hit “Beasts of No Nation,” which featured Abraham Attah, Emmanuel Affadzi, and Ricky Adelayitor. Netflix will release the new show this September, putting it up against all of the new Fall shows that are scheduled to hit the big networks. Still, the release will be perfect for the Back to School crowd and the cord-cutters out there, and there’s no such thing as having too much great TV to watch in the fall when it’s cold and rainy outside.
As for “Maniac,” the series follows the story of two strangers who find themselves caught up in a mind-bending pharmaceutical trial gone awry. Netflix first announced the new series back in April but now you can watch the trailer below.
“Maniac” is currently scheduled to be a Netflix Limited Series, and the episodes are set to premiere on September 21st.
Fans of Emma Stone can expect to see the actor in Disney’s live-action adaptation of “Cruella,” where she will play the titular role, that film currently has Alex Timbers attached to direct. Jonah Hill is slated to star in the drama “The Ballad of Richard Jewell” with director Ezra Edelman, that project is currently in pre-production.
