Netflix is bringing back “Altered Carbon” for another season, the video-streaming service announced today that it has ordered additional episodes from Skydance Television and that the cast is getting a few upgrades.
If you’re new to the show, the series is based on the classic science fiction novels by Richard K. Morgan. In the new season Anthony Mackie (Captain America series, Detroit) will star as Takeshi Kovacs, though few details are known about his character at this time. Fans should be happy to show that Laeta Kalogridis will return as co-showrunner and executive producer in the second season and that Alison Schapker will be joining the series as co-showrunner and executive producer. David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Marcy Ross will executive produce for Skydance and James Middleton (Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles), will serve as an executive producer.
Fans might know Mackie best from his role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Mackie played Sam Wilson/The Falcon in “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” and continued the role in “Avengers: Age of Ultron, “Ant-Man,” “Captain America: Civil War.” and most recently “Avengers: Infinity War”. Mackie was classically trained at the Juilliard School of Drama and was discovered after receiving rave reviews while playing Tupac Shakur in the off Broadway “Up Against the Wind”. Immediately following, Mackie made his film debut as Eminem’s nemesis, Papa Doc, in Curtis Hanson’s film “8 Mile”. Later in his career Mackie played Sgt. JT Sanborn in Kathryn Bigelow’s very popular drama “The Hurt Locker” and Tupac Shakur in the Notorious BIG biopic “Notorious”. Mackie also starred in the Jay Roach directed, adaptation of the Tony Award winning- play “All The Way”. He played the role of Martin Luther King Jr. opposite Bryan Cranston’s Lyndon B. Johnson.
Netflix didn’t give us a release date yet for the new season but the service will most likely drop a few teasers as the show goes into production.
