Tell Murray to get his roll-call ready, the Flight of the Conchords are ready for their next big gig. HBO confirmed that the musical duo would be returning to the network earlier this year for a special taped at the London Apollo, and today we have a fixed premiere date to get excited about.
The big special will debut on Saturday, October 6th and it will be available exclusively on HBO. The event was taped before a sold-out audience at the Eventim Apollo in London, featuring a long list of fan favorites and new original songs from their “Flight of the Conchords Sing Flight of the Conchords Tour”. The comedy special was directed by Hamish Hamilton, with executive producers Jemaine Clement, Bret McKenzie and Mike Martinovich.
The “Flight of the Conchords” show ended in 2009 on HBO after two wonderful seasons but even before then, the duo had an incredible fan-base and several poplar tours. The network also released a quick promo the new event, featuring everyone’s favorite Jermaine and Brett, and fans can watch that video below.
With the Apollo show still a few weeks away, fans can stream both seasons of the original HBO series from the network’s online apps and sites, and you can still find a few of their previously taped shows on social-media sites like YouTube. Over the two seasons the show was nominated for 10 Primetime Emmys, including ‘Outstanding Comedy Series’ and ‘Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series’. Among the other awards the show picked are three Grammy nominations and one Grammy win for ‘Best Comedy Album’. HBO will most likely release several more teasers and promo videos over the next few weeks but if you’re a fan of the duo, make sure to set a reminder to watch this October.
