Doctor Who goes with San Diego Comic-Con like fish fingers and custard, and this year was a very special one for Whovians all over the globe. Jodie Whittaker, the first woman to take on the role of the famous Doctor, met with fans and introduced the teaser trailer for her big debut in the series.
BBC America hosted an entire panel for Doctor Who at SDCC this week and Jodie Whittaker took center-stage with co-stars Bradley Walsh, Mandip Gill, and Tosin Cole. Fans of the long-running series will have to wait until the fall to see the new episodes but the trailer features the Doctor and her new friends, Ryan Sinclair (Cole), Yasmin Khan (Gill) and Graham O’Brien (Walsh), traveling through space and time like they are sure to do many times in the new season.
The new season will also bring with it a new composer, named Segun Akinola. The network described the addition of Akinola in his announcement adding, “The Royal Birmingham Conservatoire alumni will provide an exciting and emotional score, ushering in a new era for the show, including a fresh take on the legendary theme tune.”
As part of the BAFTA Breakthrough Brit program in 2017, Segun has already been recognized as one of the rising stars among British composers. At the time of his announcement Akinola added, “Doctor Who is woven into the fabric of British culture and recognized globally. I am absolutely thrilled to be given the privilege of working on such a beloved series and to bring my musical voice to it.”
Jodie Whittaker will be the Thirteenth Doctor for the show and BBC America seems to have a lot of teasers and promos in-store for fans as we wait until the big premiere date. No need to make you wait for the trailer though, you can watch the video below.
