Shailene Woodley’s ‘Adrift’ Goes Digital This August
Sail away with Woodley
Shailene Woodley’s “Adrift” is going digital this summer. Universal Pictures and STX have set a home box-office release date for the adventure-drama, which will release on Digital HD on August 21 and Blu-Ray and DVD on September 4th. The film can be a perfect way to relax as the summer draws to a close as we all wait for Fall TV to return.
Starring Shailene Woodley (Fault in Our Stars, Divergent franchise) and Sam Claflin (Me Before You, The Hunger Games franchise), Adrift is based on the inspiring true story of two free spirits whose chance encounter leads them first to love, and then to the adventure of a lifetime. As the two sailors set out on a journey across the ocean, Tami Oldham (Woodley) and Richard Sharp (Claflin) couldn’t anticipate they would be sailing directly into one of the most catastrophic hurricanes in recorded history. In the aftermath of the storm, Tami awakens to find Richard badly injured and their boat in ruins. With no hope for rescue, Tami must find the strength and determination to save herself and the only man she has ever loved.
The film did moderately well in theaters despite launching against some heavy hitters back in June. “Adrift” had an $11M opening while “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” “Avengers: Infinity War,” and “Deadpool 2” were all going strong at the box-office. “Adrift” went on to make almost $31M domestically and over $39M worldwide. The film was directed by Baltasar Kormakur. Fans of Shailene Woodley can see her in the award-winning hit “Big Little Lies” on HBO, and she is expected to voice the titular role of Arkie from director Luke Jurevicius. That project will also features Jai Courtney, Andrew Bachelor, and Tim Minchin.
