20th Century FOX has set a home box-office release date for “Deadpool 2,” which was the follow-up to the original 2016 hit “Deadpool” featuring everyone’s favorite Merc. The film will first release on Digital HD and Movies Anywhere on August 7th, then the film will release on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD on August 21st. Since Summer TV is generally pretty terrible, Marvel fans should be happy to get the release before the start of Fall. You can pick your favorite version of the new release, and pre-order for release-date delivery.
The studio stated that “The Deadpool 2 Super Duper $@%!#& Cut” will come with 15 minutes of brand-new action and jokes, which will be peppered into the film. “Deadpool 2” was an instant hit for the studio, and featured Ryan Reynolds, Josh Brolin, Morena Baccarin, Julian Dennison, Zazie Beetz, T.J. Miller, Brianna Hildebrand, and Jack Kesy. The film was directed by David Leitch.
FOX brought-in over $125M on opening weekend with “Deadpool 2”. The film made over $314M domestically and over $727M worldwide. The film felt short of beating the original “Deadpool” at the box-office, but both installments were terrific hits for the studio. The original “Deadpool” released back in 2016 and had a $132M opening weekend, easily taking the top-spot on the domestic charts. The first film made over $363M domestically and over $783M worldwide before it finally wrapped its theatrical run. Competition and movie-fatigue might have played a part in “Deadpool 2” failing to beat the first film. “Deadpool” opened against films like “Zoolander 2,” while the second film opened between “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” which probably had an impact on the box-office totals.
