SeaGate Barracuda SSD Line Launches in July

The Barracuda is coming for you

SeaGate Barracuda SSDseagate

The Seagate BarraCuda line of HDDs has always been a popular option for gamers and media enthusiasts looking to cut load-times and maintain high read/write speeds without sacrificing storage space. In the past, the line has been primarily focused on high-speed standard drives but a new installment to the series brings the BarraCuda brand to SSDs. The new line is set to launch in just a few days and Amazon Prime Members will get first dibs on the new options.

While many custom builders choose to boot their OS off an M.2 or an SSD drive, high-storage SSDs for games (or the growing popularity of NVMe drives) still remains a pricey luxury for most users. Seagate is often a nice balance of speed, reliability, and price, so we are excited to see where the BarraCuda SSD line falls on the pricing scale. It’s a common practice to save frequently used games to a smaller SSD, while older or larger games get saved to a slower HDD on the same rig, but now users won’t have to choose between speed and storage. The company announced the new BarraCuda SSD collection earlier this week, but the device (and pricing) won’t be available until Amazon Prime Day.

The new drive will offer a SATA 6GB/s interface and the drive will come equipped with a flash-speed function up to 560MB/s and 90K IOPs that will accelerate boost-time, file transfers and application loading. It’s also nice to know that the BarraCuda SSD comes with a 5-year warranty, 1.8M hours MTBF, and up to 1092 TBW with 24-hr Global Technical Support on-hand. The drives will come in several sizes, which should accommodate several budgets and use-cases. The planned launch includes a 250GB, 500GB, 1TB and 2TB option, with a standard 2.5” form factor and SATA 6Gb/s interface. The smaller size means that both Laptop and Desktop users will be able to take advantage of the new line.

As we mentioned earlier, the new BarraCuda SSD line will be available on Amazon exclusively on Prime Day 2018, the drives will then become available to all in September 2018. If you aren’t a Prime Member, you can get a 30-day free trial and join in on the event on Amazon.com/prime, or you can set a bookmark to join the Prime Day celebration on Amazon.com/primeday.

Also starting this week, customers can enter for a chance to win the Alexa Home-Smart-Home Sweepstakes by asking Alexa questions about Prime Day, watching Alexa-related videos, downloading and using the Amazon App, and more. One grand prize winner will receive an Alexa-enabled 2019 Lexus ES, a complete Alexa smart home package, and more. Get details at amazon.com/homesmarthome.
