Tom Holland Teases ‘Spider-Man Homecoming 2’ Title
Oh Spidey you prankster
If want some hints about the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, look no further than Tom Holland. The popular young actor has a hard time keeping Marvel’s secrets during interviews and conventions (some staged, some genuine accidents it seems) and his latest tease contains the name of the next Spider-Man film, called “Spider-Man: Far From Home”.
Holland was at ACE Comic-Con in Seattle this weekend, sharing the stage with fellow Marvel heroes Anthony Mackie and Elizabeth Olsen. During his stay in Seattle, Holland posted a video to his Instagram account telling fans not to expect any official announcements from his Spider-Man sequel. Holland instead just stated that he had the script ready to go and held it up for the world to see on his iPad. The script had the name of the film on it, and staged-spectacle or not, Spidey fans should be excited to finally get the title of the film.
Facts about the film are scarce, the latest gossip from Hollywood is that Jake Gyllenhaal might take on the role of the supervillain Mysterio in the follow-up installment. Last year the villain was played by Michael Keaton. Holland/Spider-Man fans can watch that video below, from his official Instagram account.
It will be a challenge for “Spider-Man: Far From Home” to beat the original’s box-office numbers. The first film in the Sony/Marvel partnership released back in 2017 and had a $117M opening weekend. The film went on to make over $334M domestically and over $880M worldwide. “Spider-Man: Homecoming” was directed by Jon Watts, the film featured Tom Holland, Michael Keaton, Robert Downey Jr., Donald Glover, Zendaya, and Marisa Tomei. Obviously those aren’t impossible numbers to beat, “Avengers: Infinity War” made over $257M on opening weekend before making $669M domestically. The Marvel giant made over $2B worldwide.
San Diego Comic-Con is just around the corner, the next big convention where more Spider-Man tips could be shared. The annual event is scheduled to begin on July 19th and run through July 22nd.
The next big Marvel release is “Ant-Man and the Wasp,” releasing on July 6th. We suggest that Marvel fans get their tickets early from sites like Fandango before heading out to the theaters on the busy holiday weekend.
