This weekend “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” hit theaters nationwide, the highly anticipated sequel managed to dethrone Disney’s “Incredibles 2” and became the new box-office champion. Competing studios decided not to challenge the dino-sequel on release day but Jurassic World 2 will have to battle “Sicario 2” and “Uncle Drew” next weekend.
“Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” grossed an estimated $150M across 4,475 locations this weekend, shy of the original’s opening but still a massive debut. “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” was directed by J.A. Bayona, the film stars Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Jeff Goldblum, James Cromwell, Geraldine Chaplin, and Toby Jones. The original “Jurassic World” opened in 2015 with a $208M opening weekend, the film went on to make over $652M domestically and over $1.67B worldwide.
Disney’s “Incredibles 2” still had a strong follow-up weekend, bringing in over $80M across 4,410 locations. The PIXAR sequel has now made over $350M domestically in just two-weeks. “Incredibles 2” was written and directed by Brad Bird, the film features the voice-talents of Craig T. Nelson, Holly Hunter, and Sarah Vowell.
Warner Bros. Pictures’ “Ocean’s 8” dropped to third-place on the domestic charts, bringing in $11.6M across 3,656 locations. The heist-comedy has made over $100M domestically since the film debuted in theaters three-weeks ago. “Ocean’s 8” was directed by Gary Ross, the film features Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Paulson, Rihanna, and Helena Bonham Carter. The studio also managed to grab fourth-place this weekend, the comedy “Tag” made $8.2M while remaining in 3,382 locations. After two-weeks “TAG” has grossed over $30M domestically. “TAG” was directed by Jeff Tomsic, the film stars Jeremy Renner, Ed Helms, Jake Johnson, Jon Hamm, and Isla Fisher.
FOX’s “Deadpool 2” wrapped up the Top Five this weekend, bringing in another $5.2M across 2,420 locations. The Deadpool sequel has been in theaters for six-weeks now and has made over $304M domestically. “Deadpool 2” was directed by David Leitch, the film stars Josh Brolin, Ryan Reynolds, Zazie Beetz, and Morena Baccarin.
Jurassic World 2 will have to defend its title next week against “Sicario 2” with Benicio Del Toro and Josh Brolin, and the comedy “Uncle Drew” with Shaquille O’Neal, Nick Kroll, and Tiffany Haddish.
