Michael B. Jordan stands alone in the first poster for “Creed II,” which is currently scheduled to hit theaters in November. The poster was released just as Jordan took the stage at the 2018 MTV Movie & TV Awards, where he won Best Villain for hist work in the crowd-favorite film “Black Panther”.
The studio teased the squeal stating, “Life has become a balancing act for Adonis Creed. Between personal obligations and training for his next big fight, he is up against the challenge of his life. Facing an opponent with ties to his family’s past only intensifies his impending battle in the ring.” The studio added, “Rocky Balboa is there by his side through it all and, together, Rocky and Adonis will confront their shared legacy, question what’s worth fighting for, and discover that nothing’s more important than family. Creed II is about going back to basics to rediscover what made you a champion in the first place, and remembering that, no matter where you go, you can’t escape your history.”
Joining Michael B. Jordan in the film are Sylvester Stallone, Tessa Thompson, Wood Harris, Russell Hornsby, Florian “Big Nasty” Munteanu, Andre Ward, Phylicia Rashad, and Dolph Lundgren. The sequel was directed by Steven Caple Jr., the first installment was written and directed by Ryan Coogler.
The original film was a much needed hit for MGM at the time, opening at number-three back in 2015 with a $29M weekend. The film opened behind “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2” and Disney’s “The Good Dinosaur” during a very crowded box-office. In 2015 “Creed” went on to make over $109M domestically before grossing $173M worldwide. A wide-array of awards helped the film break the $100M mark at home, Sylvester Stallone was nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role at the Oscars and won the award at the Golden Globes. The film did very well at the African-American Film Critics Association, where Best Director went to Ryan Coogler, Best Supporting Actress went to Tessa Thompson, and Breakthrough Performance went to Michael B. Jordan. Fans of the franchise can checkout the first poster below.
