Alexis Bledel and Beau Knapp start work on ‘Crypto’
The cast of Crypto get to work
The upcoming financial-thriller “Crypto” is set to begin production this week and the studio has confirmed the extended cast for the film. Beau Knapp (Seven Seconds, The Nice Guys), Alexis Bledel (The Handmaid’s Tale, Gilmore Girls), Kurt Russell (The Hateful Eight), Luke Hemsworth (Westworld), Jeremie Harris (Legion) and Vincent Kartheiser (Mad Men) will lead the cast; the film is being directed by John Stalberg, Jr.
The script was written by Carlyle Eubank and David Frigerio and the movie is based on an original story by Jeffrey Ingber.
The studio is describing the film as a mix between a financial thriller and a crime drama. The story follows a young anti-money laundering agent named Martin (Beau Knapp) tasked with investigating a tangled web of corruption and fraud in his remote New York hometown. The character’s father Martin Sr (Kurt Russell) and brother Caleb (Luke Hemswoth) are struggling to maintain their family farm in a changing economic landscape. Martin quickly finds himself enmeshed in a dangerous underworld populated by Katie (Alexis Bledel), an art dealer with mysterious intentions, Earl (Jeremie Harris), a crypto-currency enthusiast turned cyber-sleuth, and Ted (Vincent Kartheiser), a corrupt accountant doing the bidding of ruthless clients.
This will be Stalberg’s follow-up feature film, his first was “High School” with Adrien Brody and Colin Hanks. Carlyle Eubank and David Frigerio previously collaborated as co-writers of the acclaimed sci-fi thriller “The Signal,” in which Beau Knapp also starred. The film premiered at Sundance and was distributed theatrically by Focus Features.
“I am overjoyed to be working with such an incredible cast to bring this timely, thrilling story to life,” commented director John Stalberg, Jr. “Beau is incredibly talented, and seeing him bring this character to life opposite talent like Alexis, Kurt, Luke, Jeremie and Vincent, has been a dream come true.”
Producers Jordan Yale Levine and Jordan Beckerman added, “Cryptocurrency has captured the attention and imagination of consumers and entrepreneurs all over the world, but has never been explored in film in such a nuanced and exciting way. We can’t wait to bring this film to audiences across the globe.”
Beau Knapp currently stars in Netflix’s acclaimed series “Seven Seconds” and is also well known for his roles in “The Nice Guys” with Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe and “The Signal” with Laurence Fishbourne.
