Superheroes aren’t afraid of heights and the new duo at “Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger” are already soaring above the competition. Freeform announced this week that the debut of “Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger” on June 7th was the network’s biggest series launch in over two years in total viewers, taking the top-spot at a network that is already topping the charts in their demographic. The show racked up 1.64M viewers on the premiere and the series opener is Freeform’s most-watched drama telecast on any night since the series finale of “Pretty Little Liars” back in June 2017.

The ratings weren’t just good during the traditional broadcast, in the first three days after its launch “Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger” stood as the best-ever digital debut in Freeform history. The network has seen some amazing debuts, that includes “Famous in Love,” “Siren,” and “The Bold Type”. The show generated 7.3M views across linear and digital platforms, setting a new high at Freeform.

Now we all know that Freeform is also the social-media kingpin within the network’s targeted demo, and “Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger” claimed Thursday’s top most-social scripted series with 112K engagements across Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and Tumblr. That’s a lot of hashtags.

If you want to break it down, “Cloak & Dagger” opened as the night’s top cable program among Teens 12-17; it was the top scripted series on cable among Women 18-49; and the top original scripted cable series among Women 18-34, Adults 18-49, Adults 18-34, Persons 12-34, and Females 12-34. That’s an impressive start to a new series.

You can still catch the series premiere on Hulu or the Freeform app, so don’t feel like you’re behind at this point. If you’re new to the series, “Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger” is the story of Tandy Bowen (Olivia Holt) and Tyrone Johnson (Aubrey Joseph) – two teenagers from very different backgrounds, who find themselves burdened and awakened to newly acquired superpowers which are mysteriously linked to one another.

Tandy can emit light daggers and Tyrone has the ability to engulf others in darkness. They quickly learn they are better together than apart, but their feelings for each other make their already complicated world even more challenging. The network has ordered 10 one-hour episodes slated to debut early 2018. “Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger” stars Olivia Holt, Aubrey Joseph, Andrea Roth, Gloria Reuben, Miles Mussenden, Carl Lundstedt, James Saito and J.D. Evermore. The series is co-produced by Marvel Television and ABC Signature Studios. Joe Pokaski (“Underground,” “Heroes”) serves as showrunner and executive producer; Jeph Loeb (“Marvel’s The Punisher,” “Marvel’s The Defenders”), Marvel’s head of Television, and Jim Chory (“Marvel’s The Punisher,” “Marvel’s The Defenders”) also serve as executive producers. Gina Prince-Bythewood (“Love & Basketball”) directed the first episode.
