Giant Cities Roam the Earth in the ‘Mortal Engines’ Trailer
It's a different world that's for sure
Universal Pictures released a new trailer for the sci-fi epic “Mortal Engines” this week, the film is set to hit theaters later this winter and will star Hugo Weaving, Hera Hilmar, Robert Sheehan, Jihae, Ronan Raftery, Leila George, Patrick Malahide and Stephen Lang.
The film was directed by Oscar-winning visual-effects artist Christian Rivers (King Kong) and is based on the award-winning book series by Philip Reeve, which was published in 2001 by Scholastic. Rivers served as a storyboard artist with Peter Jackson on all of the “The Hobbit” and “Lord of the Ring” movies and Jackson is serving as a producer on this project; Jackson also worked on the screenplay with Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens.
The film takes place thousands of years after civilization was destroyed by a cataclysmic atrocity. In the ashes of this horrific event, humankind has adapted and a new way of living has evolved. Noe there are enormous moving cities that roam the Earth, preying upon smaller traction towns.
Tom Natsworthy (Robert Sheehan) comes from a Lower Tier of the great traction city of London, and finds himself fighting for his own survival after he encounters the dangerous fugitive Hester Shaw (Hera Hilmar). The studio teases the film adding, “Two opposites, whose paths should never have crossed, forge an unlikely alliance that is destined to change the course of the future”.

“Mortal Engines” will debut against Sony’s “Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse (3D)”. The film will have twice the competition the following weekend, with “Alita: Battle Angel,” “Aquaman,” “Bumblebee,” and “Holmes & Watson” set to debut in theaters nationwide. December will be packed with new releases, let’s all hope that we don’t get snowed in.
