Maddie Poppe Wins ABC’s First ‘American Idol’
The new American Idol now has a winner
The first season of “American Idol” has ended at ABC and Maddie Poppe has been declared the winner. The announcement came during part two of the two-night special event on Monday, which included performances from ‘American Idol’ Judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan. The event also included artists Bebe Rexha, Darius Rucker, Gary Clark Jr., Kermit the Frog, Nick Jonas and Mustard, Patti LaBelle, Yolanda Adams and other ‘American Idol’ contestants.
As for the performances, there were a few great ones scattered throughout the night. Bebe Rexha and the top 3 finalists sang “Meant to Be,” a song by Bebe Rexha, and Darius Rucker and Caleb Lee Hutchinson hit the stage to sing Ruckers’ “Wagon Wheel”. Gary Clark Jr., Dennis Lorenzo and Cade Foehner sang “Bright Lights,” and American Idol judge Katy Perry joined Catie Turner for “Part of Me”. Even the great Kermit the Frog was there, singing “Rainbow Connection” with winner Maddie Poppe.
Layla and Dyxie Spring joined LeAnn Rimes for “Blue,” while American Idol judge Lionel Richie partnered with the top 10 finalists to sing “All Night Long”. The other judge, Luke Bryan, sang his song “Sunrise, Sunburn, Sunset” while also singing “Most People Are Good” with Gabby Barrett.
Of course fans went crazy when Nick Jonas and Mustard sang “Anywhere,” Nick Jonas also sang “Jealous” with Jurnee. The legendary Patti LaBelle joined Ada Vox to sing “Lady Marmalade,” and Yolanda Adams sang with a choir of voices and Michael J. Woodard for a rendition of “What the World Needs Now”.
ABC has already renewed American Idol for a second season, Hit Series and Star Maker ‘American Idol’ to Make More Dreams Come True With Second Season on ABC. Next year, Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie will return as judges.
