Netflix has announced the casting for “First Ladies,” a political comedy coming to the video-streaming service in the somewhat near future. In the new special, Jennifer Aniston will be the President of the United States, with Tig Notaro as The First Lady. The political comedy is being written by Tig Notaro and Stephanie Allynne, and is based on their original pitch.
Netflix describes the series saying, “First Ladies is a political comedy about America’s first female President and her wife, The First Lady. When Beverly and Kasey Nicholson move into the White House, they’ll prove that behind every great woman… is another great woman.”
Producing the special for Netflix is Tig Notaro, Stephanie Allynne, Jennifer Aniston, and Adam McKay, Will Ferrell, Jessica Elbaum and Betsy Koch for Gloria Sanchez Productions. “First Lady” is being executive produced by Chris Henchy. THis isn’t the first time that Tig Notaro and Netflix have partnered up, Netflix hosted Notaro’s original comedy special “Happy to Be Here”. Fans of Notaro can set a reminder to watch that special on May 22nd on Netflix. Notaro will also direct Ellen DeGeneres’ upcoming Netflix original comedy special.
Netflix stopped short of confirming a release date for “First Ladies,” but more information is expected to be released as the special enters into production. At that time we will probably get a teaser for the show, and learn more about the supporting cast.
Earlier this week Netflix also announced that it will bring a “Lost Girls” adaptation to viewers. That project will have award-winning director Liz Garbus at the helm, with Amy Ryan as the lead. Netflix also has a new series on the way for thriller fans, working with Guillermo Del Toro to produce the brand-new series “Guillermo Del Toro Presents 10 After Midnight“. That project is expected to launch in 2019. “Guillermo del Toro Presents 10 After Midnight” is a Netflix production, and its first original horror anthology series.
