In a world of humans and puppets

“The Happytime Murders” trailer lives at the crossroads of “Who Framed Roger Rabbit” and “Sesame Street”. The adult-comedy is set to hit theaters later this summer, and is certainly going to offer moviegoers something unique to watch in August. While the trailer is NSFW, we highly recommend getting a first-look at this bizarre comedy. Filled with sexual humor, gross puppets, violence, and bad-language, we couldn’t stress enough not to watch this at the office, but well, we did anyway because we that’s what we do.

STX released the red-band trailer for “The Happytime Murders” earlier today, the film stars Melissa McCarthy, Maya Rudolph, Joel McHale, and Elizabeth Banks. The film itself was directed by Brian Henson, and is set to hit theaters on August 17, 2018. The studio describes the film saying “No Sesame. All Street,” and the adult comedy is set in a Los Angeles where puppets and humans coexist. In the story, two clashing detectives with a shared secret, one human (Melissa McCarthy) and one puppet, are forced to work together again to solve the brutal murders of the former cast of a beloved classic puppet television show. Fans of the (genre?) can watch the first-look trailer below.

“The Happytime Murders” will have a lot of competition this August at the box-office. Disney is kicking-off the month with the release of “Christopher Robin,” which will open against the thriller “The Darkest Minds,” and the actioner “Mile 22”. The buddy-comedy “The Spy Who Dumped Me” is also opening that same weekend. Later that month, Warner Bros. Pictures is releasing the shark thriller “The Meg” and the romantic-comedy “Crazy Rich Asians“. Sony Pictures is releasing the thrillers “Alpha” and “Slender Man” in theaters in August as well.
