Rami Malek Channels Freddie Mercury in ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ Trailer
The story of the rock legend hits theaters this fall
FOX released the first official trailer for “Bohemian Rhapsody,” a bio-drama following the legendary singer of Queen, Freddie Mercury. Starring in the film is Rami Malek, who fans most likely know from his role as Elliot Alderson in “Mr. Robot”. If the trailer is anything to go by, Malek certainly nailed Mercury’s iconic look, and the film will be filled with some of Queen’s most popular work.
The studio described the film as a “celebration” of the famous rock band, though most of the film will focus on the group’s iconic lead singer. The studio went on to say, “The film traces the meteoric rise of the band through their iconic songs and revolutionary sound, their near-implosion as Mercury’s lifestyle spirals out of control, and their triumphant reunion on the eve of Live Aid, where Mercury, facing a life-threatening illness, leads the band in one of the greatest performances in the history of rock music”.
The film is set to release in theaters on November 2, 2018, joining Malek on screen are Lucy Boynton, Gwilym Lee, Ben Hardy, Joseph Mazzello, Aiden Gillen, Tom Hollander, and Mike Myers. The film was directed by Dexter Fletcher and Bryan Singer.
“Bohemian Rhapsody” will have a tough opening weekend to win, the drama is opening against Disney’s “The Nutcracker and the Four Realms,” and an untitled Tyler Perry Movie. The following week isn’t any easier, with “Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch” opening alongside “The Girl in the Spider’s Web”. The release-date gives the film a shot at the Academy Awards though, which is probably more important to the studio than winning the weekend. Fans of Queen can see Malek’s attempt at capturing Mercury in the trailer below.
