Adult Swim has added another half-hour comedy series to the network’s roster of original shows, and this one comes in part from Amy Poehler. The show is going by the title “Three Busy Debras,” and the pilot was produced by Paper Kite Productions. The network stopped short of confirming a premiere date for the first season, but the company has confirmed a few details. The show features an impressive cast of comics, and it’s nice to see Adult Swim is finally hiring more female writers and leads in their network programming.
As for the show, “Three Busy Debras” will be a new absurdist half-hour comedy series that follows three disturbed housewives living in an affluent Connecticut suburb. The series is created, written, executive produced, and starring Sandy Honig (Isn’t It Romantic) and should hit Adult Swim later this year. Mitra Jouhari (Miracle Workers) and Alyssa Stonoha also serve as executive producers along with director, Anna Dokoza (Baskets). Amy Poehler and Kim Lessing complete the list of executive producers through Paper Kite Productions. You can find the three creators, Susan Honig, Mitra Jouhari, and Alyssa Stonoha, in the picture above.
“Paper Kite is thrilled to help amplify the bold and bloody voices of the Three Busy Debras. We hope this show makes you feel strange in all the right ways,” said executive producer Amy Poehler.
Over the top shows do very well on Adult Swim. In the past the network has launched several versions of “The Tim & Eric Show,” “Children’s Hospital,” and “Eagleheart”. Animation still reigns supreme Adult Swim, and the network offers everything from claymation to Anime. The most successful animated series is still “Rick & Morty,” which debuted season 3 back on April 1st.
No word yet on an exact premiere date for “Three Busy Debras,” but Adult Swim will most likely release a few teasers and an official trailer before the big season 1 premiere hits the network.
