As Star Wars fans across the globe are busy celebrating Star Wars Day, wishing one another a May the 4th be with you, tickets for “Solo: A Star Wars Story” are finally on sale. The social-media teams at Disney, LucasFilm, and EA Games are working overtime today to take advantage of the fan-holiday, and Fandango and Atom Tickets have begun taking orders for the film’s opening weekend debut.
“Solo: A Star Wars Story” is the second stand-alone film in the franchise. The first standalone film was “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” which had a $155M opening weekend, the film then went on to make over $1.05B worldwide. If “Solo: A Star Wars Story” wants to be the new standalone king, it will have to beat those numbers. We will know just how lucky Solo is at the end of the month, the highest grossing film in the entire franchise is currently “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” which had a $220M domestic debut and a $1.3B worldwide box-office gross.
The Star Wars brand gave viewers an inside-look at the film to celebrate Star Wars Day. A 360 video feature released today gave fans a preview from one of the most iconic moments in Solo’s life, the time when Han Solo and Lando Calrissian first met and gambled for the legendary Millennium Falcon. Fans can check out that video below, thanks to an early morning upload from the studio to YouTube.
“Solo: A Star Wars Story” was directed by Ron Howard, and features Emilia Clarke, Alden Ehrenreich, Thandie Newton, Woodey Harrelson, and Donald Glover. As we reported late last month, Disney Channel also confirmed a new animated adventure-series called “Star Wars: Resistance“. The show will follow Kazuda Xiono, a young pilot recruited by the Resistance and tasked with a top-secret mission to spy on the growing threat of the First Order. It will premiere this fall on Disney Channel in the U.S. and, thereafter, on Disney XD and around the world.
