The only thing competing with Disney, is Disney

The summer box-office provides the year’s flashiest films, usually filled with CGI and over-the-top action sequences. This year won’t be any different, and Fandago asked movie-fans which of this year’s biggest films they are most interested in seeing on the big screen.

The official results of Fandango’s 2018 Summer Movies survey has “Avengers: Infinity War,” “Deadpool 2,” “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” and “Incredibles 2” at the top of the charts, showing that sequels are just as popular as ever with fans. More than 4,500 fans voted this month for the one movie they were most looking forward to seeing on the big screen between April 27 and Labor Day, with Marvel characters taking the top-spots on the list.

“This summer will deliver an unprecedented selection of movies, offering something for everyone at the multiplex,” says Fandango Managing Editor Erik Davis. “Fans are particularly looking forward to ‘Avengers: Infinity War,’ not only the most anticipated film of the summer, but perhaps the decade. It’s the culmination of more than a dozen Marvel movies, and the fact that no one has seen the movie yet only adds to the excitement.”

To celebrate a summer of unprecedented blockbusters and incentivize moviegoing, Fandango is launching its new Fandango VIP+ rewards program this week. For the first time, Fandango ticket buyers can earn VIP+ Points redeemable for discounts and free stuff across Fandango’s family of businesses.

According to the survey, the Most Anticipated 2018 Summer Blockbuster is “Avengers: Infinity War,” with “Deadpool 2” taking the silver medal. They beat “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom,” “Incredibles 2,” “Ocean’s 8,” “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again,” “Mission: Impossible – Fallout,” “Sicario: Day of the Soldado,” and “Ant-Man and the Wasp”. Of course just making the top-ten is great news for the studio, but if you look at that list again, you might notice a trend. If you consider Disney, Lucasfilms, soon to be purchased FOX Films, and Pixar all Disney properties, the mouse has five out of the top-ten movies on the list on his payroll.

Strangely enough, Disney had fewer films on the Most Anticipated Summer Family Film list. On that survey “The Incredibles 2” took the gold, with “Christopher Robin” taking second-place, so Disney still had the top-two films, but the rest go to other studios. Third-place went to “Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation,” followed by “Show Dogs,” and “Teen Titans Go! To the Movies“.

So who are the Fan Favorite Actress? According to Fandango they are, in order, Sandra Bullock (Ocean’s 8), Scarlett Johansson (Avengers: Infinity War), Emilia Clarke (Solo: A Star Wars Story), Zoe Saldana (Avengers: Infinity War), and Melissa McCarthy (Life of the Party). The Fan Favorite Actors are, again in order, Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool 2), Chris Pratt (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Avengers: Infinity War), Denzel Washington (The Equalizer 2), Robert Downey, Jr. (Avengers: Infinity War), and Chris Evans (Avengers: Infinity War) .
