A24 released a trailer for “How to Talk to Girls at Parties,” a romantic-comedy coming to theaters this summer. The film is based on a story by Neil Gaiman, and the film stars Elle Fanning, Alex Sharp, and Nicole Kidman.
Fans of Neil Gaiman might know him from his work on “American Gods” and “Coraline,” the other big name behind the project is John Cameron Mitchell of “Hedwig and the Angry Inch,” and “Shortbus” fame.
In “How to Talk to Girls at Parties” Enn (Alex Sharp) is a shy suburban London teenager in 1977, sneaking out with his best friends to after-hours punk parties. One night they stumble upon a bizarre gathering of sexy teenagers who seem like they are from another planet. In fact, they are from another planet, visiting Earth to complete a mysterious rite of passage. That doesn’t stop Enn from falling madly in love with Zan (Elle Fanning), a beautiful and rebellious alien teenager who, despite her allegiance to her strange colony, is fascinated by Enn. Together they embark on a delirious adventure through the kinetic punk rock world of 1970s London, inadvertently setting off a series of events that will lead to the ultimate showdown of punks vs. aliens, and test the limits of how far each of them will go for true love.
The film was directed by John Cameron Mitchell, working from a screenplay that he wrote with Philippa Goslett. You can watch the first trailer for the film below, thanks to an early upload from A24 earlier today.
A24 is expected to release “How to Talk to Girls at Parties” in May, putting it against “Deadpool 2”. May is a very busy week at the domestic box-office, moviegoers will also have the release of “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” and the remake of the comedy “Overboard”.
