Lionsgate released a trailer for the upcoming comedy “The Spy Who Dumped Me,” starring Mila Kunis, Kate McKinnon, and Justin Theroux. The film is set to release in theaters this August, and the trailer shows just how hard it can be to say goodbye to a spy.
Starring in the film with Kunis, McKinnon and Theroux are Gillian Anderson, Hasan Minhaj, Ivanna Sakhno, and Sam Heughan, the film is set to hit theaters on August 3, 2018. “The Spy Who Dumped Me” was directed by Susanna Fogel, who wrote the script with David Iserson.
In the film Audrey (Mila Kunis) and Morgan (Kate McKinnon), two thirty-year-old best friends in Los Angeles, are thrust unexpectedly into an international conspiracy when Audrey’s ex-boyfriend shows up at their apartment with a team of deadly assassins on his trail. Surprising even themselves, the duo jump into action, on the run throughout Europe from assassins and a suspicious-but-charming British agent, as they hatch a plan to save the world.
Kunis has been putting a lot of work into the comedy-genre over the past few years. One of her biggest ongoing franchises is the “Bad Moms” movies, and the first film in that series had a $23M opening weekend back in 2016. The film then went on to make over $184M worldwide, and earned a follow-up film called “A Bad Moms Christmas”. The sequel opened against “Thor: Ragnarok,” and made just under $17M on opening weekend. The adult-comedy brought-in over $130M worldwide last year.
Fans of Kunis and McKinnon can watch the trailer below, thanks to a mid-afternoon upload from YouTube.
“The Spy Who Dumped Me” will share a busy box-office weekend on opening night. Also hitting theaters that weekend are Mandy Moore’s thriller “The Darkest Minds;” Ewan McGregor’s “Disney’s Christopher Robin;” the Mark Wahlberg, Ronda Rousey, and John Malkovich project “Mile 22;” and the John Cho, Debra Messing thriller “Searching”. The film will also have competition the following week, with the sci-fi shark tale “MEG,” starring Jason Statham, Fan Bingbing, and Jessica McNamee, debuting in theaters nationwide.
