Square Enix officially confirmed today that “Shadow of the Tomb Raider” will release this fall. The publisher had setup a teaser-site for the game earlier this week, but left the title hidden within the coding of the website. This allowed sneaky-sleuths to ruin Square Enix’s surprise a little early. The announcement of the game coincides with the big movie-premiere for “Tomb Raider” with Alicia Vikander, the game will release on PC, PS4, and the Xbox One.

Players will have to wait six-months before the new Tomb Raider game becomes available, the official release date is September 14 on all platforms. “Shadow of the Tomb Raider” will get an official unveiling on April 27, 2018, today we just got the picture above and the release date. While details are slim, it looks like Lara Croft will be moving from the cold of the Himalayan Mountains, to the tropical Mayan Temples. The ‘shadow’ in the title probably has a few meanings, but one of them is most likely the eclipse that is so prominently displayed in the picture above, and in the game’s title graphic. Players can be notified when pre-orders of the game are available on consoles ($59 on Amazon).

The Tomb Raider franchise has sold over 63 million copies worldwide. The original game led to one of the most successful video game film adaptations in history, with the 2013 reboot inspiring a new blockbuster film that embodies the game’s signature survival action style. The most recent release in the world famous franchise, “Rise of the Tomb Raider” has received over 100 “Best of” nominations and awards, and is one of the highest rated games.

As for the “Tomb Raider” movie that is releasing this weekend, that film star Alicia Vikander, Dominic West, Daniel Wu, Walton Goggins, Kristin Scott Thomas, and Derek Jacobi. The new franchise installment was directed by Roar Uthaug.
